Assessing Your Local Ice Cream Options

Ice cream: it’s pretty much the official summer treat, and for good reason. Ice cream is a refreshing treat and comes in so many forms and flavors–and from so many different ice cream shops–that you could go for one every day and still not have exhausted all options come autumn.

Whether the sheer number of possibilities is a good or bad thing depends on how strict you are on a diet, but it poses another problem. With so many ice cream shops in or near Marlton, it can be tough to decide where to go. You probably won’t go wrong hitting up any of the great local shops, but here’s a guide to a few sure winners to get you started.

TCBY stands for “The Country’s Best Yogurt,” and if you take a look at all the accolades piled on the franchised business, you’ll see that most people agree. While the flavors of frozen yogurt alone–including cheesecake, cookies and cream, and coffee–will leave you happy enough, TCBY also strives to provide healthier alternatives to the treats you’d get elsewhere. You can find here ice creams that are vegan, gluten free, dairy free, and GMO free, meaning you can snack (somewhat) guilt-free.

Daddy O’s Dairy Barn

If you’re looking for some old-fashioned, hometown ice cream, look no further than Daddy O’s Dairy Barn. Noted for their incredibly creamy, homemade ice creams, Daddy O’s has lots of toppings and lots of flavors, including old favorites like the vanilla peanut butter. But because everything is homemade, you can expect to see some new experiments, too. Daddy O’s has some features you won’t see elsewhere, such as self-serve and outdoor seating. Plus, you don’t need to worry about developing an addiction to their flavors, as Daddy O’s is open almost every day of the year, including Christmas Eve!

Rita’s Italian Ice

Rita’s is ubiquitous in New Jersey, especially on the west side, where it seems you can’t cross the street without hitting another location. But just because Rita’s is easy to find doesn’t mean it’s no good. It’s the opposite, in fact. While you can certainly get a scoop of ice cream with all the toppings, many people come here for the Italian ices. Along with sundaes, milkshakes, and other frozen treats, there’s tons else to try here, too. You’ll spend just as much time trying to pick something as you will eating it!

Diane’s Italian Water Ices

When compared to the other ice cream shops on this list, Diane’s is a bit of a drive, but even still, it’s well worth it. Visitors just can’t seem to help themselves from comparing Diane’s offerings to Rita’s, saying that here, the ice cream is creamier and tastier. Plus, the ice cream comes with an animal cracker on top. The kids will love it! Besides ice cream, Diane’s also serves some respectable water ices – it’s in the name, after all.

There are few things more summer-appropriate than going out for ice cream on a warm summer day. So, the next time you or the kids feel a sugar craving coming on, skip the supermarket freezer section and try one of these great local businesses instead.
